Translating Museology into Graphic Arts

Most of studies in Museology this area are academic paper works, it was an interesting challenge to simply the academic words through visual language.

One of the purpose of the exhibition in museums and galleries is helping visitors to understand exhibits and experience the atmosphere there. Visitors is part of the exhibition. A good designer of exhibition even will consider the role of visitors is the same as exhibits. In other words, an exhibition is designed around visitors. However, most visitors haven’t realised the importance of themselves. Personally, it is because even though museums and galleries are quite popular nowadays, museology this subject, is not as popular as museums. Finally, combine this writing information and the content describing how the writer reacts to the reflection of himself and the outside world, I shifted my attention to explore the reactions of museum visitor, and I was wondering how different the visitors’ reactions would be among different style museums, which could be linked back to the study of the relationship between exhibits and viewers.

Audience for this project: aim to the people who have museology, art history or curation background like me, the visitors who are planning to visit Bristol (this work will help them to decided which art institution they might be interested in) and the people who work at Arnolfini, Bristol Museum and RWA.
Explanation: The paintings on the left side of each illustration are the first collections of each display room, I collected the reaction, facial expressions of visitors when they just stepped into that room and looked at that painting. The different dressing style of these three groups of visitors may imply the different identities of art institutions as well.
